AVALON
The Mists of Avalon that gather around the unmistakable Tor and the surrounding plains evoke images of a mystical landscape steeped in myth and legend and forever associated with the old religions, Arthur and his castle, Camelot and associated celtic legends and a sense that somehow the landscape is alive. At the centre of this magical realm lies the Isle of Avalon, or the Isle of Glass, it's focus the elegant and enigmatic hill, or tor, that stands out from the surrounding land decorated by the remains of an old chapel at its top. A remarkable sight. The Mists of Avalon is also the name of a novel by Marion Bradly that was turned into a successful tv series.
Forever associated with the isle of Avalon are the legends of King Arthur, the 12 Knights (the 12 signs of the Glastonbury zodiac ?) and characters such as Gwynn Ap Nudd, the welsh lord of the underworld |
who resides in a labyrinth neath the tor. Then there is Camelot, many believe this was located at Tintagel in Cornwall but its more likely that any association would be with nearby Cadbury Hill

GLASTONBURY
The mystical heart of Britain, epicentre of myth magic, esoterica and legend. The town itself is a rather small Somerset town dominated by the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey in the centre as well as the imposing tor with its ruin on the top. Given the town's tiny size however, there is much to discover and most of the attractions are associated with a myth or legend or some magical past. In fact there isn't much in here that isn't. Even the shops are mystical and draw in the weird and wonderful looking tourists that fill its boutiques and courtyards. Its all here, esoteric bookshops, wiccan stores, temples, the alluring waft of incense wherever you go. Reiki healing, psychic predictions, Tibetan sound healing, shamanic courses, colour therapy and you can even purchase a giant pyramid to cover your bed, festooned with energetic crystals. Yep, its all here, whatever it is. Aside from the curious shops, the healing centres and the vegetarian cafes there is more to see and in many ways this is only the cosmetic front for what really lies here, so lets see what this amazing little town has to offer. For more Glastonbury information please take a look around the website. Please visit the Camelot and Avalon pages for more information around the myths and legends surrounding the Isle of Avalon and Glastonbury.
